Washington, D.C., Nov. 28, 2017 – Banner Public Affairs announced today that Christian Whiton has joined the firm.
As senior vice president, Whiton, 43, adds deep strategic communications experience for clients in technology, finance, legal, and international fields, as well as crisis management.
Whiton joins Banner from the State Department, where he was a senior advisor for strategic communications. During the Presidential Transition, Whiton was the media advisor to Rex Tillerson and Nikki Haley during their respective nominations for Secretary of State and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
“Christian’s experience with communications in corporate, political, and crisis settings makes him an important addition to the firm,” said Banner Public Affairs Partner and former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent. “He has a demonstrated ability to advise senior-level leaders on communications and public image at critical junctures, and understands how to achieve corporate goals in a rapidly evolving information environment.“
Whiton’s earlier experience includes communications-related work on several presidential campaigns and extensive on-camera media work. He was a California-based principal at a political risk advisory firm, serving domestic and international clients engaged in cross-border deals. Whiton previously worked at the State Department during the George W. Bush administration, serving as a speechwriter and a deputy special envoy. His efforts included international information campaigns. He is the author of “Smart Power: Between Diplomacy and War.” Prior to earning an MBA at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, Whiton was a senior associate at KPMG’s mergers and acquisitions practice. He received an undergraduate degree from Tulane University.
Whiton will be based jointly in Banner’s offices in Washington and Los Angeles.
“In 2017, we have continued to grow at Banner, adding new talent to our ranks and expanding with the opening of our offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco,” said Talent. “We have the right formula for helping clients succeed: a truly integrated government relations and communications capability with a team that brings knowledge and experience from top global firms.”
